Pulmonary atresia, a congenital heart defect in which the pulmonary valve doesn’t form properly, planning for a unifoculization with placement of a systemic pulmonary artery shunt.
Major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (MAPCAs) arise from the descending thoracic aorta as vestiges of the primitive pulmonary artery supply. In this disease, some lung segments may have native pulmonary artery supply, only MAPCA supply, or dual supply from MAPCAs and native pulmonary artery branches. Unifoculization connects MAPCAs to build a connection between the heart and the lungs and normalize blood flow.Designed using real patient imaging scans and the latest 3D printing technologies, in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic.
